Off topic: StarCraft II to be a trilogy?

October 13th, 2008 by nazeeh Leave a reply »

So… looks like according to Kotaku, StarCraft II is going to be released on 3 parts. I was just wondering what you guys think of that? I am a huge StarCraft fan (who isn’t?!) and am waiting anxiously for that game to ship! I was a bit bumped that they will release it as a trilogy, but then I realized that I really don’t play the single player portions of most of the games I buy. So it won’t matter as much. Speaking of RTS games… what do are you guys playing out there? It’s still by far my favorite genre even though I SUCK at them :/

Thanks for reading! I'd love to hear your thoughts, feel free to leave a comment below. Don't forget to subscribe to my RSS Feed!

  1. I for some reason never got around to playing starcraft, but I played the heck out of some warcraft 3. More recently, I played age of empires for a while.

I casually played some of the lord of the rings RTS games to check out their concept of individual unit bravery/fear … the idea that some weaker units will run away or become weaker if their squad leader was defeated. It was kind of interesting, I liked that they were at least trying to change up the formula a little bit. It was also the first game that proved that you could make a good RTS for a console (ignoring the fact of course that Dune 2: battle for arrakis was released on the genesis over 10 years ago) :-P

    I’m surprised I haven’t seen more XNA RTSs …

I totally think an RTS written in XNA GS would be a lot of fun! After seeing Yuichi Ito demo a sample app he wrote with a BAZILLION 3D models flying around the screen at 60FPS or so, I got inspired! Of course his sample was using some very neat GPU trickery :) But man… if you know what you’re doing, you can pump some SERIOUS performance out of the Xbox using XNA GS. A RTS with those techniques would be awesome.

You know, the last RTS game I played (other than a certain beta) was Pikmin II. I think Pikmin is the best RTS yet to come out for a console :-)

I’m a huge Starcraft fan as well — can’t wait for it to come out! AoE3, AoM, and Warcraft 3 are some of the ‘relatively’ recent RTS games that I was into.

I know well what you talk about, I love Starcraft and many other similar RTS games, it never feels like I’m bad at them, but I always lose anyways, I must be missing something that everyone else seems to have -_-. Most of my strategy gaming time lately however has been devoted to slower SRPGs like Disgaea

Just to know StarCraft story, I’m in my north Russia buy lisence GOLD edition, and in this holydays I want to play a lot. I’m really old SC fan, from school, but I don’t play full campagin, more in multiplayer.
Can someone tell me, how much money will SC2 worht?
    Sorry for my English :(

Well… we don’t know yet of course since the game has not been released yet. But probably it will cost around $50 just like all other games I would guess. The expansions (part 2 and 3) probably will cost a bit less but that’s not for sure.

That’s just me guessing of course.

  8. So when is starcraft 2 coming out anyway. Any mention of starcraft ruffles my feathers, I hate late games…Sweet blog though, keep it up!
