This is a great story and I will pass it on to my youngest son, who is the only one really interested in riding with me. I sold (gave) him my old bike when I upgraded and he will apreciate this story.

Thanks Kevin :)

This is not my story of course, I found it buried somewhere on the internet and had to share it. It is one of the best stories I've read. Glad you liked it too!

A very nice story and so much recognition, that's why I just have to comment, even though it's such a long time ago since it's posted.
Ever since I can remember I have been wanting to ride a bike. Riding on the back with my dad.
Seeing my dad wave to other bikers, asking him if they knew them. Seems like every little future-bikers goes through that phase.

Your complete story is just so recognizable! Have been riding a bike since it was possible.
Goosebumps all over. Makes me want to get the bike out and ride!

I've been trying to explain to people what it is like for me, to ride my bike and I was never able to do it.
You've put it down in words better than I've ever been able to with the following piece:

"They may not be able to find words to describe what it means to ride, but they still know. They may not be able to describe what it means to feel the smooth acceleration and the strength beneath them. But they understand.
These are the riders who park their bikes, begin to walk away and then stop. They turn and look back. They see something when they look at their bikes that you might not. Something more complex, something that is almost secret, sensed rather than known. They see their passion. They see a part of themselves."

With a friendly wave from another biker.

This article is true to the word. An awesome story and if everyone would understand and desire the comradeship that bikers do, what a different world we would live in. What do I enjoy about riding? Everything. What do I enjoy about my machine? That it is an extension of me.
